18 Qui cum veníssent ad eum, et simul essent, dixit eis: Vos scitis a prima die qua ingréssus sum in Ásiam, quáliter vobíscum per omne tempus fúerim,
19 Sérviens Dómino cum omni humilitáte, et lácrimis, et tentatiónibus, quae mihi accidérunt ex insídiis Iudæórum:
20 Quómodo nihil subtráxerim utílium, quóminus annuntiárem vobis et docérem vos, públice et per domos,
21 Testíficans Iudǽis atque Gentílibus in Deum pœniténtiam, et fidem in Dóminum nostrum Iesum Christum.
22 Et nunc ecce alligátus ego spíritu, vado in Ierúsalem: quæ in ea ventúra sint mihi, ignórans:
23 Nisi quod Spíritus Sanctus per omnes civitátes mihi protestátur, dicens: Quóniam víncula et tribulatiónes Ierosólymis me manent.

℟. Iste Sanctus pro lege Dei sui certávit usque ad mortem, et a verbis impiórum non tímuit:
* Fundátus enim erat supra firmam petram.

Lesson from the Acts of Apostles
Acts 20:17-23
17 And sending from Miletus to Ephesus, he called the ancients of the church.
18 And when they were come to him, and were together, he said to them: You know from the first day that I came into Asia, in what manner I have been with you, for all the time,
19 Serving the Lord with all humility, and with tears, and temptations which befell me by the conspiracies of the Jews;
20 How I have kept back nothing that was profitable to you, but have preached it to you, and taught you publicly, and from house to house,
21 Testifying both to Jews and Gentiles penance towards God, and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
22 And now, behold, being bound in the spirit, I go to Jerusalem: not knowing the things which shall befall me there:
23 Save that the Holy Ghost in every city witnesseth to me, saying: That bands and afflictions wait for me at Jerusalem.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
℟. Thanks be to God.
℟. This man is holy, for he hath striven for the law of his God even unto death, and hath not feared for the words of the ungodly;
* For he had his foundation upon a strong rock.
℣. This is he which loved not his life in this world, and is come unto an everlasting kingdom.

24 Sed nihil horum véreor: nec fácio ánimam meam pretiosiórem quam me, dúmmodo consúmmem cursum meum, et ministérium verbi quod accépi a Dómino Iesu, testificári Evangélium grátiæ Dei. 25 Et nunc ecce ego scio quia ámplius non vidébitis fáciem meam vos omnes, per quos transívi prǽdicans regnum Dei.
26 Quaprópter contéstor vos hodiérna die, quia mundus sum a sánguine ómnium.
27 Non enim subterfúgi, quóminus annuntiárem omne consílium Dei vobis.

℟. Iustus germinábit sicut lílium:
* Et florébit in ætérnum ante Dóminum.

24 But I fear none of these things, neither do I count my life more precious than myself, so that I may consummate my course and the ministry of the word which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 25 And now behold, I know that all you, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
26 Wherefore I take you to witness this day, that I am clear from the blood of all men;
27 For I have not spared to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

℟. The righteous shall grow as the lily
* Yea, he shall flourish in the presence of the Lord for ever.
℣. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord, shall flourish in the courts of the house of our God.

28 Atténdite vobis, et univérso gregi, in quo vos Spíritus Sanctus pósuit epíscopos régere Ecclésiam Dei, quam acquisívit sánguine suo.
29 Ego scio quóniam intrábunt post discessiónem meam lupi rapáces in vos, non parcéntes gregi.
30 Et ex vobis ipsis exsúrgent viri loquéntes pervérsa, ut abdúcant discípulos post se.
31 Propter quod vigiláte, memória retinéntes quóniam per triénnium nocte et die non cessávi, cum lácrimis monens unumquémque vestrum.
32 Et nunc comméndo vos Deo, et verbo grátiæ ipsíus, qui potens est ædificáre, et dare hereditátem in sanctificátis ómnibus.

℟. Iste cognóvit iustítiam, et vidit mirabília magna, et exorávit Altíssimum

28 Take heed to yourselves, and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
29 I know that, after my departure, ravening wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 And of your own selves shall arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
31 Therefore watch, keeping in memory, that for three years I ceased not, with tears to admonish every one of you night and day.
32 And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, who is able to build up, and to give an inheritance among all the sanctified.
℣. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.

℟. This is he which knew righteousness, and saw great wonders, and made his prayer unto the Most High
* And he is numbered among the Saints.

23:4 The innocent in hands, and clean of heart, * who hath not taken his soul in vain, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbour.
23:5 He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, * and mercy from God his Saviour.
23:6 This is the generation of them that seek him, * of them that seek the face of the God of Jacob.

64:10 The river of God is filled with water, thou hast prepared their food; * for so is its preparation.
64:11 Fill up plentifully the streams thereof, multiply its fruits; * it shall spring up and rejoice in its showers.
64:12 Thou shalt bless the crown of the year of thy goodness: * and thy fields shall be filled with plenty.
64:13 The beautiful places of the wilderness shall grow fat: * and the hills shall be girded about with joy.
64:14 The rams of the flock are clothed, and the vales shall abound with corn: * they shall shout, yea they shall sing a hymn.

91:2 It is good to give praise to the Lord: * and to sing to thy name, O most High.

91:5 For thou hast given me, O Lord, a delight in thy doings: * and in the works of thy hands I shall rejoice.

91:7 The senseless man shall not know: * nor will the fool understand these things.

At Toledo, in Spain, the holy Virgin and martyr Leocadia. In the persecution under the Emperor Diocletian she suffered a terrible imprisonment under Dacian, Prefect of Spain, and when she heard of the grievous torments of blessed Eulalia and the other martyrs, she knelt down in prayer and gave up her unstained spirit to Christ, (in the year 303.)
At Carthage, the holy martyr Restitutus, Bishop (of that see,) concerning whom on whose solemn feastday holy Augustine preached a discourse to the people.
Likewise in Africa, the holy martyrs Peter, Successus, Bassian, Primitivus, and twenty others.
At Limoges, in France, (in the year 46,) the holy Virgin and martyr Valeria.
At Verona, holy Proculus, Bishop (of that see, in the fourth century.) In the persecution under the Emperor Diocletian he was buffeted and cudgelled and thrust out of the city, but was at length restored to his own church and fell asleep in peace.
At Pavia, holy Syrus, the first Bishop of that city, who was eminent for the signs and powers of an apostle.
At Apamea, in Syria, blessed Julian, Bishop, who shone with holiness in the time of the Emperor Severus.
At Perigueux, in France, (about the year 586,) the holy Abbot Cyprian, a man of great holiness. (He lived as a hermit in the latter part of his life near Dordogne, at a place now called after him.)
At Nazianzus, (about the year 371,) holy Gorgonia, sister of blessed Gregory the theologian, who hath written of her graces and miracles.
At Grai, in Burgundy, (in the year 1636,) holy Peter Fourier, Canon Regular of Our Saviour, founder of the Canonesses Regular of Our Lady for the education of girls whom, illustrious for his virtues and miracles, Leo XIII added him to the roll of the Saints.

Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
